Step Inside 6 Midcentury-Modern Homes in California That Are Undeniably Enviable

modern vintage interior design

If you want to add a little bit of quirk, pair midcentury modern with an unexpected aesthetic. The light green color of these living room walls by Ashley Maddox bring in the midcentury modern spirit. It's a classic hue of the time, and paired with the same era furniture in this room, it really brings the whole space together. You might not think the classic log cabin look and midcentury modern aesthetic can work together, but Thom Filicia proves they do renovation. The cluster of midcentury coffee tables don't compete with the warm wood and stone textures in the space.

Intermix Tables & Chairs

As you’ll soon find, each one displays a fresh contemporary take on a now classic style. But with so many different styles to choose from, it’s hard to know where to start. This guide aims to simplify this process by offering inspiration and ideas for everything from choosing the perfect color to selecting vintage pieces that will truly stand out. Needless to say, the bed will likely be the star attraction in your bedroom.

Ideas To Make The Most of a Tiny Cabin

If you a fan of shabby chic interiors, you can create coherence by painting thrift store finds like nightstands, dining room chairs, tables, and dressers in a creamy white, and add white overstuffed armchairs and sofas. This will make it simple to marry styles and periods by keeping the focus on form. Delve into the clean lines and minimalistic ethos characteristic of Scandinavian design, opting for furniture and decor pieces with timeless appeal and sleek silhouettes.

Layer Intriguing Pieces

Provide depth with rich jewel tones like emerald green and ruby red, and contribute to an authentic vintage aesthetic with materials such as wood, natural stone, and forged elements. Ensure a timeless design by incorporating elements older than 30 years, reflecting past trends. In the world of Vintage interior design, the aesthetic holds a timeless allure, offering a journey through eras where craftsmanship and elegance took centre stage. The essence of vintage style is characterised by a weathered charm that creates an atmosphere of aged aesthetics. In vintage interior design, from the preference for dark and pale vintage woods to the blending of classic designs with ornate details, each element contributes to a harmonious and inviting space. In vintage interior design, the infusion of eclectic combinations and patterns, coupled with a focus on natural materials like wood, weaves a narrative of warmth and intimacy.

Every day, Decorilla’s designers craft bespoke interiors, allowing clients to experience spaces that resonate with their personal style and aspirations, fostering genuine connections with the world of design. Retro-style living rooms and any other space just wouldn’t be complete without a pop of neon. Again, a little goes a long way so use the colors and any lighting sparingly.

If you’re looking for a wider selection of vintage and antique furniture, 1stDibs is one of the most comprehensive websites available. 1stDibs is also unique because they sell vintage and antique products wholesale and retail, so there’s no need to worry about minimum order sizes when placing purchases through their site. Utilize the corners of your own living room by adding shelves or vintage cabinets for storage. Facebook marketplace or garage sales can be great arenas to find some really nice and authentic vintage furniture.

Browse estate sales and online auctions, and you can score vintage gems that will make you the envy of your design-loving friends. Your environment should be a direct reflection of your personal taste and lifestyle. With a love for statement walls, artisan goods and vintage furnishings, Scout Modern crafts entirely unique spaces. Bold wallpapers, creeping greenery, layered textiles, and modern lines provide the perfect balance between modern minimalism and California cool.

Actively select crystal chandeliers, wrought iron sconces, and Edison filament lamps to enhance the timeless aesthetic of the era. Ok, this one may be a little out there (and an investment if you don’t already own one), but I still included it in the list because I love the idea. If you or a family member play the piano, consider getting one in the living room.

When it comes to infusing your space with vintage charm, sourcing items from resalers or local flea markets offers a treasure trove of unique finds waiting to be discovered. From quaint knick-knacks to timeless furniture pieces, these venues provide an authentic touch that adds character and depth to your decor. I love to pull bowls out of china cabinets, frame photos or artwork that may have been tucked in a drawer and “steal” pieces from other rooms that may work better in the space you are trying to create. Colorful pillows, interesting coffee table books, cool lamps, and fresh drapery panels add a “new” aspect to the room that make it feel updated.

It is a new design style that will allow you to merge two different design movements from two different eras to create an interior that’s full of character and functional in the modern world. If names like Eames and Bertoia and Wegner get you excited, scroll on to see designer midcentury modern living rooms that will persuade you to give in and fully embrace the aesthetic. By blending old and new, you create a dynamic and personalized environment that tells a story and evokes a sense of timeless elegance. Use your bathroom as a place to incorporate modern and vintage design elements! Balance the cool colors and metal elements of modern bathroom design with vintage Bohemian touches like rattan rugs and woven plant holders. Or hang an antique chandelier or vintage mirror to give a makeover to an industrial bathroom.

They have an incredible selection of high-end vintage pieces that fit any style and budget. And they have great customer service, making them perfect for a first-time vintage furniture buyer. I love and adore vintage wall lamps (like the one pictured above that we have in our hallway). These types of wall-mount lamps look stunning in the modern vintage home. They’re perfect for when you want to cuddle up in a comfy chair and read a good book or magazine. I personally love incorporating some floral patterns in modern vintage decor.

Shabby chic home decor is an awesome way to experiment if you don’t have the budget or patience to completely fill your home with antiques. This fusion of old and “new made to look old” is a great way to test out your DIY skills and take on a home improvement project or two. Pieces by mid-century modern designers such as Ray and Charles Eames, whose lounge chair sits next to a floor-to-ceiling window, and Isamu Noguchi decorate this Los Angeles loft that was designed to nod to Japanese minimalism. Here, we have gathered images of 10 projects where mid-century modern design has been used to create interiors that are elegant without feeling cold or stark. “We kept the existing paneling,” Redmond Warner explains of the primary bedroom.

Business Card Maker Create Your Own Business Cards

business card design app

Similar to many well-known online graphic design software, GotPrint has an easy-to-use design tool so you can quickly customize your business card design. What I like about Business Card Star is that you don’t have to download or install anything on your PC. You may create your business cards online in a matter of seconds. The business card maker creates layouts with either 8 business cards per page or 10 business cards per page in PDF file format. These business card templates work with pre-cut business card paper. QRCodeChimp offers professionally designed digital business card templates trusted by enterprises globally.

Get started with Design.com's business card maker

If you’re an iPhone user and only need basic digital business card functionality, consider this app. Next, customize the colors, fonts and even the layout of your business card with our easy to use editing tools. Add depth and a personal touch with shapes and gradient colors.

Professional Business Card Maker

Some card makers offer square cards, mini business cards, and vertical cards to make you stand out more. And don’t forget PsPrint’s die-cut cards for a unique card shape. Some business card makers allow you to customize every aspect of a template, while others only let you insert personalized information instead of the placeholder content. Once you’ve finalized your design, add the cards to your cart to check out.

How to Add a GIF to Your Instagram Comments: Step-by-Step Guide

Another digital business card creation tool on our list is Haystack. This no-frills digital card app comes with an easy-to-use interface that lets you share contact details easily to save time and effort. If you’re looking for an app to help create and design a physical or digital business card, Canva is the one for you. It is a popular online design and publishing tool that allows you to create various content such as videos, presentations, posters, and of course, digital business cards. The digital age has changed the way people create and exchange business cards.

I highly recommend this app to anyone who wants to make their own business cards, and enjoys exploring possibilities of what their business cards can look like. To me, it gives more of a personal feel as opposed to one that has mass produced, and has no emotion nor human connection to it. I would recommend this to just about anyone so long as they are willing to put in the actual effort and patience to tweak their business cards exactly to their liking.

Importance of Business Cards in the Digital Age

Design.com provided an excellent selection of high-quality images for viewing which allowed creative ideas to spawn. Each and every business card at Design.com is created by profressional designers. In the name of clear communication, your font choice should be simple. While you can use a more elaborate font for your logo, information like your name, phone number, and email address should be easy to read—even for people with slight vision problems. There are a number of factors that determine the best business card printing service.

Browse and choose from thousands of business cards, customised with your logo colors to match your brand. Once you’ve logged into the free business card creator, you start designing your business card to perfectly fit your vision. Add in business card icons, choose your branded fonts and input your branded color hex codes. Find photos and relevant business card graphics to complete your design.

Easy to use

Knowee stands out as an enterprise-grade digital card and verified contacts solution built with an emphasis on privacy and control. Basic contact details like phone number, address (if you have a physical store or office), and email.4. This app ensures that any details you enter in their business card generator are protected and secure from malicious actors. Cons include limited functionality in the free version and some users have reported issues with the accuracy of the OCR technology.

business card design app

After all, you don’t want any typos on your printed business cards. With MOO, you can also create a variety of “backs” to your business card, so you have different designs to choose from when handing out your cards. While not necessary, it’s a fun way to ensure your cards stand out. An intuitive dashboard allows teams to easily design, update, organize and track digital card performance all in one place.

These are uniquely shaped with cutouts that tell your business’s story. Once you’re done with your design—or if you already had a design and just needed to get cards printed—it’s time to select your materials. While covering standard card creation, storage and sharing features, KADO makes the design process incredibly simple thanks to straightforward controls. Haystack stands as easy to use design-centric digital card creator.

SnapDat might be a great choice for you as the platform helps users create traditional-looking business cards that exist on mobile devices and can be emailed to prospects. As mentioned earlier, top digital business card apps will notify you when a prospect views them. When you have this vital piece of information, you can devise effective follow-up strategies that result in more closed deals. Create branded social media designs to match your business card. Download social posts & stories customized with your brand colors.

The only downsides are that your business card design is not very customizable and you have to find your own printing. Besides, this business card software allows saving names and addresses of different companies. So, you may automatically add them to templates if necessary. You may also insert a company logo, employee photo, or other images.

Download your finished design from the business card maker as a high resolution image file or a PDF with bleed marks. Select from one of the ready-to-use templates within the business card creator in either horizontal or vertical layouts. You can make a business card with either a one-sided or two-sided design. Visualize numbers on your business cards with engaging data widgets and percentage radials.

Haystack wants to help you “make a great first impression.” They do this by offering users a digital business card app that they can use to create custom cards. Then SPOTIO is the best option for you in terms of digital business card apps. When you know what’s happening and why, you can make better decisions, which will lead to more sales. The best digital business card apps will automatically track the cards you send to prospects and log the activity in your CRM.

Alachua County purchases Sunrise Residence Inn from St Francis House

st francis house

“We already have a shortage of this type of housing in the community and we feel it’s critical,” Lieberman said. St. Francis House would have had to close the Sunrise Residence Inn to cut its costs, displacing its residents. The Inn qualifies as a federal low-income housing program with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, but residents would not have been able to transfer to a different location.

Bureau of Water Works and Supply began pouring concrete for dam in August of 1924. The dam was to be 185 feet tall, and would have a maximum capacity of 12.4 billion gallons, enough water to supply roughly 500,000 households for one year. Mulholland's first choice was to build the reservoir in Big Tujunga Canyon. Unfortunately for him, a collage of private ranching interests owned much of the land Los Angeles would have needed to purchase. The landowners in what's now known as Sunland and Tujunga were willing to sell their land, but only for an artificially high price.

Remsen Street around 1865, where the St. Francis buildings now stand. When St. Francis moved to Remsen Street in the 1960s, they kept one of these buildings. Many of this block’s brownstone houses saw their old stoops replaced with ground-floor storefronts. Sometimes, the brownstone fronts themselves were refaced in more contemporary stone. But all of these conversions continued to adhere to the eight-foot setback, as was still required by the deeds.

Our Atrium, on the first floor, and the Resource Center, on the mezzanine level, provide a safe, comfortable alternative to spending the day outside. We are the largest day shelter in Massachusetts supporting people experiencing homelessness and poverty. They are all located at our centralized campus on Boylston Street in downtown Boston.

Located in the heart of downtown Boston, we are open every single day, 365 days a year serving hundreds of individuals experiencing homelessness. Our basic, rehabilitative, and housing services overlap and build on one another to provide our guests with continuous and comprehensive support. The Women’s Center provides special access to our basic services such as food, showers, clothing, and medical care. We also offer wellness activities, creative expression, inspirational outings, psychoeducation groups, and housing/legal advocacy.

Our ability to provide meals, showers, clothing, mail and other services such as art therapy and our women’s center all under one roof uniquely positions us to meet our guests’ needs comprehensively. Since 1972, St. Francis Center has provided relief and support to homeless and extremely low-income individuals and families in Los Angeles. Much more than a soup kitchen or a food pantry, we offer a unique range of services to sustain and empower those in need and engaging volunteer opportunities in Los Angeles. Welcoming all with joy, dignity, and compassion, we dedicate ourselves every day to Serving Hope in our community.

Weekly Mass Schedule

Showering daily and maintaining personal hygiene can be challenging for people who are experiencing homelessness. We provide nearly 10,000 showers a year to our guests, along with toiletries, including shaving cream, razors, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. SFC’s Resource Services team provides resources that can assist with health and human service needs. Our resource team helps introduce individuals and families to our supportive services that will help them on their path to stability. St. Francis Center’s comprehensive programs improve the health and stability of our surrounding community, which is amongst the most impoverished in Los Angeles.

Support us in the fight against homelessness, food insecurity, and poverty. Become a monthly recurring donor!

Physical and mental wellbeing are of utmost importance to living a healthy life, and require practice and dedication. Our Spiritual Retreat provides the setting and guidance you need to strengthen your body, mind and soul. God is encountered in our everyday lives, but that relationship needs dedicated time and attention to grow and mature.

Our pantry program provides extremely low-income families, individuals, seniors, and students with fresh, nutritious groceries weekly. Guests enrolled in the pantry program can sign up for our Tuesday Diaper program, summer camps, holiday programs, and pantry delivery service. If you are currently experiencing homelessness and seeking resources in Boston, visit the City of Boston’s Housing Department website for a comprehensive list of services available in the city. We LOVE our volunteers here at St. Francis House and have volunteer opportunities 7 days a week, 365 days a year. St. Francis House has some individuals volunteer as frequently as five times a week, others once a week, once a month, etc. One of the most amazing things about volunteering here at St. Francis House is the flexibility we extend to volunteers.

It will then close again until roughly May 10 while crews work to remove steel from the Dali and refloat the ship, which will then be guided back into the port, officials said earlier this week. All active volunteers can sign up for volunteer shifts through VicNet, which is the extension of Volgistics, and also known as the Volunteer Information Center. Street parking is not available within the immediate vicinity, but parking lots and garages are plentiful within a short walk. The Millennium Place Garage at 47 Boylston Street is right next door.

We list thousands of soup kitchens and food banks all across the nation. Get in touch with us for more information and to make your reservation today. If you are making a reservation inquiry, we encourage you to fill out the retreat form under Retreats tab. Schedule time away in one of our cottages to “recharge” and renew your spiritual and emotional life. What is the greatest reward in being involved with the nonprofit? The relationships I develop with our clients, volunteers and staff.

The study did not look specifically at how the heat dome, which extended into Northern California, affected the state’s fire season. That summer, the 963,000-acre Dixie fire, which started July 13, became the first to burn from one side of the Sierra Nevada to the other, followed in short order by the 221,000-acre Caldor fire. The heat wave also ratcheted up fire danger, breaking a slew of fire weather records over a broad area and helping to stoke blazes in British Columbia, California, Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Montana. More than 7.9 million acres burned in North America in July alone — at that time, the greatest area in a single month since record-keeping began, according to the study. Smoke traveled across the continent, triggering air quality alerts across much of the East Coast.

Our refuge, recovery, employment and housing services overlap and build on one another to provide our guests with continuous and comprehensive support. Art can help guests feel empowered and realize that their identities expand far beyond their experience of homelessness. We integrate our art therapy into our recovery programming such as our workforce development programs to help job seekers explore their career paths and build life skills. We offer many activities such as working with acrylics, watercolors, sewing, crochet, making a mask, creating a visual journal or assembling a collage. Our guests have shown their work in a variety of local venues and shows, including the annual City Heart show and sale.

Aboutthe parish

Built over the course of two years, between 1924 and 1926, the dam was planned and engineered by William Mulholland, the General Manager and Chief Engineer of the Los Angeles Bureau of Water Works and Supply. The abandoned portion of San Francisquito Canyon Road, passing over where the dam once stood. (Matt Tinoco/LAist) A five minute drive past Power Plant #2 is a gravelly turnoff from where you may park. Though you stand just a five minute walk away from where the dam once stood, there are no reminders that tell you so.

“We intend to reinstate our food services, our daily meal services, as well as our housing services for unsheltered folks in our community effective next Monday,” she said. We are always looking for volunteers to help our clients with their shopping experiences, serve in our hospitality cafe or sort donations. You can also help by donating men’s or children’s clothing, household items, diapers or toiletries. Finally, we always welcome food donations like sandwiches that we can serve our clients. Inside our doors we provide guests with a warm meal, a shower, a change of clothes, a place to receive their mail, make phone calls, access computers and more.

Called "the town two miles long and two yards wide" because it was developed atop a narrow ridge overlooking the Mississippi River, it was the commercial and cultural center of the surrounding plantation country. Below St. Francisville's bluffs, another early settlement called Bayou Sara had been established by French colonists in the early 1790s. It was at one time the largest antebellum Mississippi River port between New Orleans and Memphis, but was superseded by Natchez. The settlement was gradually destroyed by repeated flooding and fires, and nothing exists of Bayou Sara today. A few of its surviving structures were hauled up the hill into St. Francisville in the 1920s. [citation needed] This area and other former French-controlled territories east of the Mississippi River was taken over by Great Britain after it defeated France in the Seven Years' War in 1763.

Even when the dam was filled almost to maximum capacity throughout 1927, the amount of water leaking from the dam was considered insignificant. Mulholland was even recorded saying at the coroner's inquest after the disaster, "of all the dams I have built and of all the dams I have ever seen, it was the driest dam of its size I ever saw." Initial surveys and studies to build the dam were completed in June of 1923, building on a knowledge base of the region's geology Mulholland had started back in 1911. While the canyon was noted to have some unique geologic features, notably the inactive San Francisquito fault line, Mulholland and his builders decided it was a suitable place to build a dam. The median income for a household in the town was $42,262, and the median income for a family was $54,333. Males had a median income of $41,563 versus $25,083 for females.

St. Francis House can accommodate small groups comprised of 5-7 individuals in our kitchen on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. We do not have group volunteer opportunities on the weekend at this time. It’s important to untangle climate change’s influence on extreme weather events like the heat dome, which are increasing in frequency and intensity, Diffenbaugh said. A lot of infrastructure and risk management systems are built around assumptions about how these events will play out, so if that changes, those systems become stressed, he said.

At St. Francis House, we aim to provide extensive, comprehensive, and compassionate care all under one roof. Our guests can find meals, clothing, showers, and medical care to address their immediate needs. We also offer mental health counseling, substance use recovery support, case management services, permanent housing, and workforce development to help actualize their long-term goals. These programs and services represent everything a person experiencing homelessness needs to find their pathway to recovery. Our guests receive well rounded, and person-centered services, in an accessible and trauma informed environment. Located in the heart of downtown Boston, we are the largest day shelter in Massachusetts, welcoming up to 600 individuals experiencing homelessness each day.

Your generous gift helps provide the nearly 8,000 unhoused individuals who cross our threshold annually with critical refuge, recovery, employment and housing services. The study adds to a body of literature documenting how the fingerprints of climate change can be detected in events such as heat waves, droughts and wildfires. Expressive Art Therapy hosted inside our Margaret Stewart Lindsay Art Studio is one of our most popular services. By exploring self-expression, participants find new ways to gain personal insight and develop new coping skills. The creation or appreciation of art is helpful in exploring emotions, developing self-awareness, coping with stress, boosting self-esteem, and working on social skills.

The Best Siding Option for California Homeowners

house siding

Remember that different types of siding require different maintenance and cleaning methods. Consult our siding cleaning and maintenance guide to learn how to best upkeep your home’s siding. Some other options are vinyl and insulated vinyl siding, available in horizontal or vertical panels, shakes, and shingles. Insulated vinyl reduces energy costs and usage, making it beneficial for hot climates. Due to the appeal of wood’s look without maintenance, composite wood is increasingly popular for modern California homes. Although it has a higher initial cost, composite wood lasts 20 to 30 years.

Stone Veneer Siding

The mixture is baked in textured molds that simulate the appearance of natural stone. It can also be applied to wood-frame walls, but the frame wall’s exterior sheathing must first be covered with a moisture barrier, followed by metal lath. Once the installation is complete, very little maintenance is required, beyond filling any cracks that appear in the mortar between stones. If you like the look, feel, and workability of solid wood but not the high price of cedar siding or the low durability of pine, engineered wood siding may be the answer. Clapboards made from wood flakes and resin (similar to the composition of oriented strand board) come with a factory-applied primer in 16ft.

How Much Does Composite Decking Cost?

Just look at that room above that’s glass from floor to ceiling… it’s amazing. Concrete comprises a mixture of cement, gravel, sand and water. The ingredients are mixed in various proportions to produce a paste that hardens when dry. This characteristic helps to create a durable concrete home exterior.

Brick

With a variety of different color choices to choose from, you are sure to find one that will match your style and make your house look amazing. Vinyl siding was first introduced in the late 1950s by a manufacturing plant called Crane Plastics. Located in Columbus, Ohio, they developed vinyl siding as a replacement for aluminum siding. The product that was available then compared to now is much different.

Board-and-Batten Siding

Fiber cement siding comes in an array of textures that give the appearance of actual types of wood. It's more durable than wood house siding options since it is termite-resistant, water-resistant, fireproof, and typically guaranteed to last 50 years (depending on the manufacturer). Fiber cement siding is composed of cement, sand or fly ash, and cellulose fiber.

Wood Siding: Shakes and Shingles

Warmer whites make for a much softer appearance and can coincide well with complementary colors like blues, browns, and greens. It will make a much less starch contrast against a darker-colored roof. Plus, a creamy white will honestly never go out of style and can stand the test of time.

Unfortunately, stucco cracks during earthquakes, but you can easily repair the damage. Opt for composite products with varying designs over repetitive, uniform patterns that appear artificial. Unlike real wood, you cannot change composite color, so view multiple samples and examples before final selection.

Comparing Siding Types

Cedar types include eastern white cedar, red cedar, and Alaskan yellow cedar; each type has a color true to its name. While pine siding can be very affordable, it can’t resist rot and insects like cedar can. Cedar is also more dimensionally stable; it won’t expand, contract, crack and warp like pine. Brick is another timeless material that’s been used for centuries to clad traditional-style homes, from stately Colonials to charming Tudors. About 20% of new homes feature brick siding, proof of its staying power.

How long does stone siding last?

Its popularity has grown steadily in that time, especially in the West, where more than a third of new homes are now clad in fiber cement. Part of its appeal in wildfire-prone parts of the country is the material’s resistance to fire (some insurance providers offer discounts for homes with fiber cement siding). The material also does an excellent job fending off extreme weather, wind, moisture and pests, plus it's easy to maintain. Fiber cement siding is typically more expensive than vinyl siding but less expensive than wood siding. It's installed over studs or exterior wall sheathing on a moisture barrier. Factory painting is highly recommended and generally under warranty for 25 years.

This home uses a mix of black, white, and gray to great effect, creating a monochromatic appearance that’s beautiful to see. This property makes the most of this by trimming out the porch in the same panels as the windows on the rest of the home’s facade. To draw the eye upward and make the most of this home’s height, a slightly lighter color is used on the upper story than that used below. The result makes the home look taller than it is, while giving it visual appeal. Please note the information provided should not substitute legal or professional advice. Consult current Los Angeles building codes and requirements and work with licensed, insured local contractors.

Wood siding is sold at lumber yards and building supply stores. For natural stone and brick, visit the stone yard or a building supply store. Another cement-based siding product, stone veneers are made to look like brick, natural stone or other masonry material.

How to Install Exterior Shutters

house shutters

Joints between stiles and rails are glued, dowelled, and screwed for the strongest bond possible. Composite panels are secured with tongue and groove connections strengthened with industrial outdoor glue and 1 inch staples. When paired with functional hardware, wood shutters are able to swing open and closed for privacy, light control, and storm protection. Our premium wood shutters are crafted from Cedar, Red Grandis, or Mahogany.

Two Divider Rails

Further modify your panel shutters by adjusting the configuration of panel sections or adding a cutout and custom tops. Accurate restoration of period homes is essential to both homeowners and the surrounding community. The obvious and only material that can be used for historic house shutter preservation is wood. ShutterLand can assist in the decision-making process to ensure the right window shutters are selected for the application.

75" Louvers (Standard)

Do consider how all of the house will appear and that new exterior shutters may take up considerable real estate. Major paint manufactures and suppliers publish collections prepared by designers who understand colors that complement one another. This is a great resource to get paint color ideas for custom exterior shutters. Outdoor louvered shutters are the most versatile and therefore the most widely employed. They add depth, texture, and symmetry to any façade, using angled horizontal louvers equally spaced and secured between the side stiles. When installed with functional outdoor hardware and closed over the window, wood louvered shutters allow air transfer through the slats.

Arch Top Shutters

They are frequently installed on modern facades to enhance the overall aesthetic. Shaker style shutters incorporate a flat component with shallow equally spaced vertical seams cut. This style may also be known as a shaker, country, cottage, framed board & batten or craftsman shutter. If you're in the middle of building or renovating a home, you're likely aware that there are various types of shutters to choose from. In this guide, we're breaking down the 6 types of exterior shutters and how to make sure you select the right type for your home's needs. Aluminum shutters are shipped from our manufacturing facility in Florida when complete.

Limited space between louvers does make this style of shutter the most difficult to prime, sand, and paint. One of the easiest ways to add instant curb appeal to your house is with the installation of custom exterior shutters. This simple weekend project will instantly enhance the appeal of existing homes and new construction alike. The addition of exterior shutters produces depth and color that brings focus to outside windows. We provide shutter spikes or screws, depending on your assessment of what is necessary in the process of measuring for vinyl shutters.

In cost, they are slightly less expensive than real wood, and they require less annual maintenance. Wooden shutters have a longstanding reputation for durability when stained and treated properly. They are highly customizable, able to be painted or stained to complement a wide variety of exterior decor.

Add finishing touches like copper capping, beading detail, cut-outs, and more, to make your shutters one-of-a-kind. All shutters are made to order and additional time is occasionally necessary to successfully complete the process. Composite and wood shutters are available in a wider range of sizes. ShutterLand’s manufacturing process has been streamlined to keep costs and manufacturing time at a minimum. Functional shutters mount with operable exterior hardware to pivot from a position flanking the window to cover the window opening. From premium wood and maintenance-free to aluminum and composite wood, each shutter material is specifically crafted to exceed the most demanding of expectations.

Board and batten shutters are simple in composition and construction. The rustic construction utilizes vertical boards joined with horizontal battens. The board and batten style fits logically on a country farmhouse, but also can be installed on a contemporary dwelling for a surprising juxtaposition.

The composition of each is slightly different, but all three have proven to deliver years of reliable service. ShutterLand window shutters are thoroughly kiln-dried before assembly in order to reduce moisture content. Vinyl louver shutters are affordable, easy to install and virtually maintenance-free. The louver shutter style is widely recognized and integrates well with a majority of house designs. Personalize your exterior vinyl shutters with a wide array of profile and color options to best complement the home.

Vinyl shutters are a relatively quick and easy solution for budget conscious DIY homeowners to simulate the look of authentic wood shutters. The resilient nature of wood exterior shutters allows them to be used in the hot, sunny Florida Keys or the cooler, humid conditions of Seattle, Washington. Understandably, solid lumber has long been the default choice for building exterior shutters. Bahama shutters prop open from the bottom so windows are shaded during hours of intense sunlight. Closed Bahama shutters can protect from weather or provide privacy. Bahama shutters are constructed with one or more signature vertical sub-stiles to create multiple vertical louver banks.

Screws can be used with hard surfaces, such as brick, but then require wall anchors to properly adhere. ShutterLand solid wood shutters are constructed from three highly respected species intended for exterior use and exposure. Red Grandis, Cedar and Mahogany all have the natural stability essential for outdoor applications.

The vertical side of the bracket attaches to the building and the horizontal side to the top or bottom of the shutter. The brackets extend the full width of the shutter and are not easily visible after installation. Select from ten unique profiles to conform to the window configuration or to give additional character.

Most Pine shutters are manufactured within a window of 4-6 weeks. From coast to coast, exterior wood shutters enhance the beauty and performance of both traditional and modern homes. Installation instantly adds depth, texture, and contrast of color to the visual landscape.

If color is critical, do not make a selection from a digital display. Composite exterior shutters install in a stationary position to the side of the window with the included Lexan polycarbonate fixed mounting brackets. ShutterLand has over 19 years of experience assisting customers select the best outdoor shutters for each unique application. We strive to provide comprehensive specifications and information about each exterior shutter style we offer. Arch top shutters are necessary when rectangular panels cannot appropriately match the profile of the window opening. Mirror image left and right arches are arranged to flank either side of an opening. Exterior vinyl louver shutters are used extensively throughout the United States to add color, depth, texture, and dimension to otherwise ordinary windows.
